WHAT IS A CUSTOMS BROKER
A Customs Broker is licensed to customs clear import and export cargo through the Australian Border Force. Once your freight is ready for transit a customs broker performs customs clearances, usually in most instances electronically. Once a response is received from Customs it can be determined if the goods can be released from the port and delivered.

WHAT ARE THE DUTY AND GST RATES FOR IMPORTING FREIGHT TO AUSTRALIA?
Each product type and country of origin has different duty and GST rates. Some commodity types have FREE duty and some country of origins have free trade agreements with Australia. Send us an email on the particular items you would like to import and any technical data sheets that you may have and we will investigate the applicable rates of duty and any GST if applicable.
DO I NEED A CUSTOMS BROKER?
Well it depends on what you’re importing. If you are importing an item with a value of AUD 1000 or less then you wont require a customs broker. However, if you are import items with a value in excess of AUD 1000 then customs will send you a letter asking you to customs clear the goods yourself or employ a company like AusGlobe to clear the goods on your behalf. If you choose to clear the goods yourself its estimated to take around 10 days to clear your goods, AusGlobe will usually clear it within 1 day.
The issue with self clearance is that the port and airports only give limited days of free storage, usually between 24 hours and 3 days. After this free time you could be facing hundreds of dollars a day in storage, oh and yes they include weekends even though you cant collect on weekends. Because our customs brokers are electronically linked to customs, and our strong relationships with the terminals its rare that storage applies when clearing through us.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF USING A CUSTOMS BROKER LIKE AUSGLOBE.
